Släktföreningen Skogsdala
Welcome to the SKOGSDALA Family Society.
The Skogsdala Family Society was founded in June 1986 by descendants to Anders and Johanna Nilsson.
Anders Nilsson descended from ancestors, living in the province of Scania(Skåne) which is the southernmost part of the Kingdom of Sweden. His ancestors date back to the period when Scania belonged to Denmark (before 1658). Even today the majority of his offspring live in the same province.
Anders who was a Jack-of-all-trades lived in a family-farm called SKOGSDALA a name that has been adopted as the name of our family society. Anders had, among other things, a keen interest in genealogical research. The results of his research is nowadays in safe keeping in the provincial record office in Lund, Sweden.
Although the Skogsdala family seems to be deeply rooted in southern Sweden, we have an exciting sidetrack as a relative named Swain Lungren left Sweden some time before 1782 to seek a future first in London, England and later in Kingston Jamaica. His first years in Jamaica is well documented by a letter to Sweden 1787 (still kept in the archives of Anders Nilsson) and by research carried out by Dorothy Kew on spot in Jamaica. (The full report from Dorothy can be read under the heading “Jamaica”.)
The Skogsdala Family Society is actively carrying out research regarding the descendants to Swain Lungren and would be very interested in making contacts with anyone who has information on this issue.
